Agios Stefanos Bay (Kythnos)

37° 23.8′ N · 24° 27.5′ E

A large east-coast bay with a chapel on its rocky islet-spit and a taverna on the beach. It has the best holding on Kythnos and good meltemi shelter.

Practical

Mud bottom with the best holding on the island (sailingissues). Very good shelter from the meltemi thanks to its shape (kythnos.gr), but expect NNW gusts. A wreck lies inside the swinging circle near the 12-16 m contour, so take a line ashore to limit swing. Rocks in the middle of the bay extend up to 100 m (kythnos.net). Tavernas ashore include Kantris and Arodou (OSM). Approach from the SE-E to avoid the Zogkaki reef to the south. A St Stephen feast is held here on 27 December. The coordinate is the sailingissues/OpenSeaMap marker.
