Agios Ioannis Bay (Kythnos)

37° 23.9′ N · 24° 28.2′ E

A cluster of small coves just north of Agios Stefanos, with a bright white chapel of Agios Ioannis Theologos and tamarisk-shaded beaches. It is a quieter alternative to its neighbour.

Practical

Sand with large weed patches, so anchor close in and tie to the beach trees if needed (kythnos.gr). Good refuge from the meltemi, said to shelter well even above Force 7 (kythnos.net), but holding is sometimes mediocre on rock and there are NE gusts (sailingissues). Rocks lie off the southern point (OSM seamarks). The coordinate is the sailingissues/OpenSeaMap marker.

Best for

Quiet meltemi cove

Season

Jun-Sep meltemi
