Agios Prokopios Anchorage (Naxos)

37° 4.6′ N · 25° 20.6′ E · approximate

A 1.5 km arc of golden sand, a repeat Blue Flag beach, on the west coast between Chora and Agia Anna. Its northern end, by the chapel, stays calm even when the meltemi blows.

Practical

No pilot-book anchoring data was found for this bay. Greeka says the northern part is protected from the strong winds and the water there stays calm on meltemi days. The southern part has beach bars and watersports. Use it as a daytime lunch and swim stop off the northern end and sound your way in; overnight, Agia Anna harbour is close by. The dive centre Blue Fin Divers sits on this beach. Its sites include Agios Nikolaos reef (max 15 m, a small sponge cave) and Calypso reef, about 1 mile off, a 20 m reef dotted with wreckage where current is common. Open to the west. The position is approximate: plotted about 200 m off the beach's northern half using the OSM beach outline and the Greeka beach point. Verify depth on your chart.
