Vaiare Pass Dive

17° 31.4′ S · 149° 45.7′ W · approximate

An east-coast dive in front of the Vaiare ferry docks, where stingrays, blacktip and lemon sharks, turtles and schools of barracuda gather around the pass.

Practical

Approximate: Tahiti Tourisme places it 'in front of the ferry docks'; pin set just outside Vaiare (Rahoneo) Pass, ±500 m. Depth not published. Vaiare Pass carries the Tahiti fast ferries and supply ships at speed, so dive only from an operator boat with a lookout, never from a yacht or unattended dinghy in the channel. Moorea Blue Diving offers free transfers from Vaiare. Feeding sharks and fish is prohibited (2026 brief). Under the 2025 anchoring decree divers may not use occupied ZMR moorings; dive with an operator or from a tended dinghy flying a dive flag.

Best for
