Vaiare Cooking Gas (Mobil station & Moorea Gaz)

17° 31.6′ S · 149° 46.6′ W

The Mobil station facing the Vaiare (Patae) anchorage stocks propane and butane bottles, and a local service collects foreign tanks for filling in Tahiti.

Practical

Position is the Mobil fuel station (OSM), next to the Champion/Pacific shopping centre. Sept 2021 Soggy Paws report: Mobil had many propane/butane bottles for exchange; hours then were Sunday–Monday 6am to 8pm and Tuesday–Saturday 6am to 9:30pm (verify locally); it also sells fruit and vegetables. Bayside Moorea Market, between the ferry dock and Vaiare Marina, also sold propane bottles. For non-French bottles, Moorea Gaz (+689 87 73 81 42) would pick up tanks, take them to Tahiti to fill and return them on Tuesdays for a small fee (2021, verify locally). French bottles use a different fitting from US/European tanks, so bring an adapter or a decanting hose. Land the dinghy at Vaiare Marina or the small beach beside it.
