Paipai Pass Dive

16° 39.9′ S · 151° 32.3′ W · approximate

Taha'a's best-known pass dive: a 25–30 m drop-off with yellow coral and small caverns, where whitetip reef sharks rest on the right-hand wall.

Practical

Position is the Paipai Pass waypoint in this file (OpenStreetMap 'Pa'ipa'i' node), not a surveyed dive mooring; the dive operator picks the exact entry point. Tahiti Tourisme says the site is for trained divers. The left wall is shallower, with wrasse and parrotfish. Dive with Taha'a Diving (Hurepiti Bay, just inside the pass) or a Raiatea centre. Paipai is a working pass with charter, ferry and tour traffic, so dive only from an operator's boat flying the dive flag. Anchoring is banned in passes (Arrêté 911 CM, 2025).
