Opunohu Valley Marae (Titiroa & Ahu-o-Mahine)
17° 32.1′ S · 149° 49.8′ W
A cluster of restored stone marae in the forest of the Opunohu Valley, among them Marae Titiroa, ringed by banyans and rebuilt in the late 1960s, and the multi-level Ahu-o-Mahine a few hundred metres away.
Practical
Pin is Marae Ahu-o-Mahine (OSM); Marae Ti'iroa is about 200 m south and Marae Afare'aito is nearby. On the Belvedere road above the agricultural school; marked paths link the sites. The valley's archaeology began with the Kellum family estate and the Tahitian Historical Society (founded 1926). Respect the sites; don't climb on the stones.
