Mount Rotui Ridge Hike

17° 30.6′ S · 149° 50.3′ W

A steep, exposed ridge climb to the summit of Mount Rotui (899 m), the sacred mountain that divides Opunohu and Cook's bays, with dizzying views of both.

Practical

Pin is the summit. OSM maps a 'partial ascent' path up the north ridge from the coast near the Hilton at Pihaena, the nearest landing being the Pihaena (Vaipahu) ZMR beach. The 2026 brief does not list it among public trails. Expect private land at the start, very steep and sometimes slippery ground, and no water; a local guide is strongly advisable. Go at first light to beat the heat.
