Belvedere Lookout (Moorea)

17° 32.4′ S · 149° 49.6′ W

The classic Moorea viewpoint high in the Opunohu Valley, looking down on both Opunohu and Cook's bays with sacred Mount Rotui between them.

Practical

By road up the Opunohu Valley past the agricultural school, or on foot via the cross-island trail from Vaiare (about 1 hour to Col de Vaiare, then about 2 hours via Trois Pinus, per Wikivoyage). Three public trails start here (2026 brief): E'a Mata Ara, 1 km, about 40 min, no guide needed; Col des 3 Pinus, 3 km, about 2 h, guide recommended; Col des 3 Coconuts, 6.5 km, about 4 h, guide recommended. Trail map posted at the lookout. The Opunohu marae are on the road just below. Bring water and repellent; muddy after rain.
