Maupiti Lagoon Coral Garden Snorkel

16° 27.7′ S · 152° 14.2′ W · approximate

Shallow coral gardens on the lagoon side of the eastern motus near Motu Tiapa'a, with clear water and reef fish. Pension boat tours combine them with the mantas, stingrays and blacktips.

Practical

Coordinate is an OSM-mapped 'Jardin de Corail' (approx); a second one is mapped at -16.47003, -152.24035 by Motu Tiapa'a. Both are shallow lagoon-side spots, so go by dinghy from the ZMR de Manuea or Petei and anchor the dinghy only on sand. Keep well clear of the marked channel, where ferry and tour boats run. Don't stand on coral; the lagoon level and outward current rise after big south swells (Multihulls World). Depths were not verified; expect wading-to-snorkel depths.
