Maeva Marae & Stone Fish Traps (Huahine)
16° 42.1′ S · 150° 59.1′ W
Maeva, beside Lake Fauna Nui, holds Huahine's main group of restored marae, traces of a civilization about 1,000 years old (Noonsite). Century-old stone fish traps sit in the lake channel beside the village.
Practical
Position: OpenStreetMap 'Pièges à poissons' (fish traps) node. The marae Vaʻotaha, Haumaru and Avaroa line the shore by the Fare Pote'e, and Manunu stands across the bridge on Motu Maeva. Free entry (Tahiti Tourisme). Roughly 5 km east of Fare as the crow flies; go by car, e-bike or bike; e-bikes are the cruiser favourite, so bring water. Noonsite: the walk from Fare is further than it looks. Combine with the Fare Pote'e, the Matairea hill trail and the Faie eels.
