Cyclone Season – Tahiti & Windward Islands
17° 40.0′ S · 149° 28.0′ W · approximate
Tahiti sits on the edge of the South Pacific cyclone belt: the wet season brings heat, squalls and a small but real cyclone risk.
Practical
Coordinate is the centre of Tahiti (Wikipedia). Cyclone risk runs from the end of November to the end of March, and because it is low, boats staying in Tahiti can usually be insured (Sail Tahiti on Noonsite). The wet, warm season is November–April (charter base guide). Shelter options: Port Phaeton (hurricane hole on your own anchor, haul-out at Tahiti Nautic Center), Marina de Papeete (usually has space; around 1,000 € a month in low season in an older report, verify), and Marina Taina moorings (better watched by a caretaker). Low-season marina rates (Dec 1–end Feb) are half the high-season price (2026 tariff guide). Watch Météo-France Polynésie (meteo.pf; VHF 13 at 6:30am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm in French).
