Mount Aorai Ridge Hike

17° 36.9′ S · 149° 29.7′ W

A classic ridge climb from the Belvédère above Pirae to the 2,066 m summit of Mount Aorai, Tahiti's third-highest peak, with views over Papeete, Moorea and into the island's crater valleys.

Practical

Coordinates are the summit (French Wikipedia: 17°36'52"S, 149°29'42"W, 2,066 m). The trail starts at the Belvédère viewpoint on the Pirae road (-17.5632, -149.5302, Tahiti Heritage), two bends below the end of the road. This is a long, steep ridge walk with exposed sections. Start early, carry water, turn back in cloud or rain, and consider a local guide. Taxi from Marina de Papeete.
