Marae Arahurahu (Paea)
17° 41.8′ S · 149° 34.7′ W
One of the finest restored marae on Tahiti, a stepped stone temple platform in a green valley in Paea.
Practical
Coordinates from Tahiti Heritage. Restored by the Service de la culture et du patrimoine; legend tells how it was renamed after a battle between two kings (Tahiti Heritage). It is a stop on a west-coast drive between Marina Taina and the Maraa Grotto. Treat marae as sacred sites: don't climb on the stones.
Best for
Polynesian archaeology on the west-coast drive
