Tahiti Tourisme's Rurutu itinerary describes a typical whale excursion: about 3 hours, pickup from your lodging, boats from Moerai, and you snorkel at a distance once whales are found, best in September and October. Only licensed operators may put swimmers in the water. The reception line also covers the restaurant, worth asking about for a meal ashore.
