Just north of Moerai the coast road climbs past spectacular makatea cliffs to a lookout over the reef and the harbour.
Practical
Position is the OSM-mapped road viewpoint north of Moerai, which matches Pitufa's description. Pitufa looked for the 'Grotte' marked on the map but found only a chasm in the makatea cliffs in the forest; take the trail to the left before the road climbs to the lookout. The Belvédère aux Tava'e above Moerai (reached via a dirt road past the mairie to an antenna, about 2 hours with route-finding) also looks over the village and the Otare cliffs.
