Taiohae Total Fuel Station

8° 55.3′ S · 140° 5.7′ W

The Total station at the commercial (cruise-ship) quay on the east side of Taiohae Bay: diesel and petrol, duty-free with a certificate, plus butane bottle exchange.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap Total node at the Taiohae grand quai (Keatuua); OSM lists Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat 7am-noon. The official mariners' brief (2023) calls it the Total Energies Keatuua station, open 7am-5pm, with stern-to berthing for fuel possible in mild weather, otherwise by jerry can. Monitors VHF 14; tel +689 40 92 06 18; Mon-Fri 7am-noon and 2pm-5pm, Sat 7am-noon (compendium). Bring boat papers, clearance form and passport. Diesel 150 XPF/litre, duty-free 130 XPF/litre (Noonsite, May 2026). Most boats bring the dinghy to the ladder at the NW corner of the dock near high tide and carry jerry cans about 100-150 ft (the dock pump is too powerful for small cans; lower cans on a rope; the dinghy can get trapped under the dock with swell or tide). Going alongside means dropping anchor and reversing to the concrete quay with a stern line; some did it easily (2022), others took hours in swell (2020), and the big black fenders mark topsides. Fuel can run out when the Puddle Jump fleet arrives and quotas may apply until a supply ship comes, so fuel up early. Butane exchange 3,200 XPF for 13 kg (May 2024); deposit for a new bottle 3,000 XPF; since 2022-2023 most outlets won't lend a bottle without a trade-in.
