Tahuata Inter-Village Church Festivals
9° 58.2′ S · 139° 7.4′ W · approximate
Three or four times a year Tahuata's villages gather in one of them for a church council and a festival of food, music and pétanque, and visiting yachts are often welcomed in.
Practical
Position is Hapatoni (one past host; the host village rotates). A cruising couple invited to the Hapatoni gathering played pétanque and spent the day with the villagers (July 2015). Dates are not published: ask in Vaitahu (Solange, Vaitahu Tourism Committee, +689 87 26 46 64) or at the Vaitahu church which village is hosting next. Dress modestly for church events, ask before photographing, and bring something to share. Anchor in Hanatefau and take the dinghy 0.5 nm to the protected Hapatoni dinghy harbour when it is held there.
