Vaitahu Educational Marine Area Snorkel
9° 56.3′ S · 139° 6.8′ W · approximate
In 2013 Vaitahu's primary school created French Polynesia's first Educational Marine Area (AME), and the idea has since spread across the French overseas territories. Snorkel it gently and ask the children what lives there.
Practical
Approximate position: the southern part of Vaitahu Bay (the AME limits are not published in the sources found). The 2026 brief invites visitors to visit the school to learn about the AME and explore it snorkelling. Do not anchor on coral; no fishing in the AME is the respectful assumption, so ask locally. Snorkel only in calm water away from the quay traffic.
