Hapatoni Dinghy Harbor

9° 58.2′ S · 139° 7.5′ W · approximate

A small concrete boat basin at Hapatoni gives the safest dinghy landing on Tahuata's lee coast. Fresh water is on the dock.

Practical

Approximate position: the breakwater basin on the west side of the village (derived from cruiser descriptions and OpenStreetMap). A green pole with a light marks the breakwater (rarely lit, 2018). Drop a grapnel a few metres off and adjust the line so swell cannot push the dinghy onto the quay (2019). Keep to the western corner so ferries and local boats can use the quay; the eastern ramp is used by local boats and children. Water on the dock (2015). No trash facilities: carry it to Tahauku. The 2026 brief chart marks a Marine Protected Area where anchoring is prohibited off this stretch of coast. Do not anchor the yacht off the village; the bottom is dead coral (2018).
