The yellow OPT building with the big satellite dish, visible from the anchorage. It holds the Gambier's only ATM and is where you buy Vini SIM cards and change dollars.
Practical
approx: placed in Rikitea village from the compendium's walking directions relative to the main dock and St Michael Cathedral (Wikipedia position); expect an error of up to about 300 m. Turn left from the dock, pass the gendarmerie and take the next left. An ATM was installed on the outside patio in February 2022. Before that there was no ATM anywhere in the Gambier, so carry a cash reserve in case it is empty. Hours (March 2021, seasonal): Mon-Thu 7:30 am-3 pm, Fri 7:30 am-2 pm. It exchanges US dollars only (about 100 XPF per USD in 2021) and no longer accepts euros. It sells Vini SIM cards (bring ID; they sell out) and top-up cards, takes payment for prescriptions ordered through the medical centre, and handles parcels. Most magasins take cards with a 2,000 XPF minimum (2021, verify locally). A pay phone is nearby.
