Rikitea Mairie Fees (trash and water)

23° 7.2′ S · 134° 58.2′ W · approximate

The town hall, just south of the dock, where cruisers pay the weekly rubbish fee that buys access to the Gambier's only trash and recycling point and to the potable water tap.

Practical

approx: placed in Rikitea village from the compendium's walking directions relative to the main dock and St Michael Cathedral (Wikipedia position); expect an error of up to about 300 m. Left from the main dock, about 1/8 mile on the left, before the gendarmerie. Trash fee: 1,000 XPF for the first week and 500 XPF for each additional week (2021-2022, verify locally). Trash can only be dumped in Rikitea, in the large bins behind the multi-purpose hall by the northern dock. Only glass and aluminium are recycled, in the white bags. Plastic, cardboard and paper go in the trash. Used oil goes in an unmarked (usually white) drum near the bins, so ask the Commune workers which one. Do not burn trash on the motus, which are mostly private. Water: pay a small fee here to use the potable water dispenser just past the sports centre and Commune building, across the street. The mairie posts the supply-ship schedule outside and offers a brochure with history and walks (Pitufa, 2020).
