Manihi Pearl Farms
14° 27.7′ S · 146° 3.3′ W · approximate
Manihi is where French Polynesia's first black-pearl farm was founded, and pearl farms still line the south and central lagoon; most welcome visitors to see grafting and harvesting.
Practical
Positioned at the village (approximate); farms are spread across the south and central lagoon (sea-seek). The 2024 atoll sheet lists 27 pearl farmers. OCC (2015): Fernando's farm tour cost 2,500 XPF and you kept the pearls you found (verify locally). Tahiti Tourisme: visitors are welcomed at most pearl farms. Keep well clear of farm buoys and lines when moving the boat. Fernando has also run boat trips to the 'blue lagoon' at the NE end of the atoll (about 15 nm), reached by a marked channel with 7 m least depth (OCC 2015).
