Manihi Pearl Beach Anchorage (Manihi)

14° 26.4′ S · 146° 3.7′ W · approximate

A sand anchorage in the lagoon off the airport motu, in front of the site of the former Manihi Pearl Beach resort, where a small family pension now runs a restaurant: an alternative to the deep, coral-strewn village anchorage.

Practical

Approximate: placed about 400 m east (lagoon side) of the Pension Manihi Pearl Village position given by Tahiti Tourisme, whose listed address is 'Manihi Pearl Beach Resort'. Sea-seek (Aug 2024 edition): you can anchor near the Manihi Pearl Beach hotel by the airport in 8-10 m on sand, but it is exposed in E wind and landing can be difficult. No cruiser fix is published; approach in good light, sound for sand and float your chain against bommies. Cross from the pass area in good light, watching for coral heads and pearl-farm buoys; there are no published waypoints. Good for a meal ashore or a crew change at the airport a short walk away.

Best for

Sand anchoring next to the airport and a pension restaurant

Season

Settled weather or N-NE winds; exposed in E wind
