Hitianau Quay (Faaite)

16° 42.1′ S · 145° 21.2′ W

Faaite's main concrete quay, just inside the pass at Hitianau. The cargo schooners land here, and it is the dinghy landing for the pass anchorage.

Practical

Coordinate is the pier in OpenStreetMap beside the Teporioha pass beacon. The 2021 government atoll sheet gives 'quai Hitianau' 41 m of berthing length and 4 m depth. A schooner buoy lies off the village (BoatNews 2022). Keep the quay clear for the schooners and the commune shuttle. Tie the dinghy on a long painter away from the barge side and expect strong pass current alongside. Sloepmouche (2008): a stick-marked dinghy channel through the reef reaches the village in protected water (from the inside anchorage, head back toward the pass; the sticks are on your left just before the town pier). There is no fuel dock. The commune stocks diesel in 200 L drums and petrol only to run its own machinery (2021), so any sale is a private favour. Water: see Faaite Water Plant and Ice Machine.
