Hakatea White-Sand Beach (Daniel's Bay)
8° 56.5′ S · 140° 9.7′ W
The pale beach at the head of Hakatea cove in Daniel's Bay, framed by 800 m cliffs; it is the dinghy landing and start of the path to Hakaui hamlet and the Vaipo waterfall.
Practical
Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap beach polygon centre at Hakatea. The brief (2023) says to land on the white-sand beach and walk 10-15 minutes to the hamlet. Pull the dinghy right up to the grass or use a stern anchor: the rising tide floats dinghies off (Noonsite comment 2019; compendium). The path to Hakaui leaves from the left side of the beach; at high tide you may have to wade round the rocks. Lots of no-nos and mosquitoes.
