Colette Bay Walk (Nuku Hiva)
8° 56.1′ S · 140° 7.8′ W · approximate
An easy 75-minute walk over the ridge west of Taiohae to Colette Bay, a black-sand beach where Survivor: Marquesas staged its challenges.
Practical
Position approx: Colette Bay lies on the south coast between Taiohae and Hakatea (Daniel's) Bay; estimated, check the chart. Directions (compendium 2020): main road west past the cemetery, right at the Pearl Lodge and up the hill; right at the 'Y'; right again at the 'Colette Baie' sign and big rock; straight at the next 'Y'; at the 3-way junction on top take the middle road (the gate may look locked but opens; close it behind you). Turning right on the ridge instead leads toward Hakaui, a much longer hike. The beach has no-nos (sand flies): wear repellent.
Best for
A half-day walk with a swim at the end
