Faaite Lagoon Anchorage (SW of Village)
16° 42.6′ S · 145° 21.0′ W
An inside-the-lagoon anchorage half a mile SW of Hitianau, reached through bommie-strewn water after the pass.
Practical
Position from Slingshot (May 2021, 60 ft monohull, 2.1 m draft), who spent 4 days in settled light N-NW winds. Several bommies, some close to the surface, lie on the route and around the spot, so go in good light with a bow watch and float the chain. Sloepmouche (2008): the inside anchorage is not protected from E-sector winds and is about half a mile from the village. The lagoon is hard to navigate because of the many pearl-farm stations, so stay clear of buoys and lines. Best in N-NW winds; in the usual E-SE trades it is exposed to the lagoon fetch.
Best for
Settled N-NW weather when the pass anchorage is rolly
Season
