Amanu Town Basin (near Fafameru Pass)
17° 50.7′ S · 140° 51.1′ W · approximate
Ikitake's small, walled boat harbour (darse) just inside Passe Fafameru. A cat can squeeze in for a last night alongside the village, and it is also the dinghy landing for town.
Practical
The entrance is narrow, about 7.5 m wide, marked by a pair of stakes, with about 2 m depth; Migration (Nov 2023) saw no less than 2 m in the short channel with the tide 0.3 m down. Bow and stern anchor in the S part of the harbour. Ask the mayor for permission first. Not recommended when it blows hard from south of east. Duplicat took a 7 m-wide catamaran in with 20 kt on the beam: tight but doable (2017). An earlier report said boats under about 1.5 m draft could enter. Works to build a new dock and reinforce the breakwater were under way in 2021. The 30 ft bank just inside the pass off the village is a poor anchorage, because chains wrap badly in coral. Position approximate: derived from the pass and anchorage waypoints; confirm the entrance by eye. The 2019 commune profile describes Amanu's landing as damaged, with 8 m of berthing length and 1.20 m draft; the supply ships Nuku Hau, SXMS 3 and Taporo 8 call (30 calls in 2017).
