Agakauitai South Bay Snorkel

23° 9.8′ S · 135° 2.2′ W · approximate

Reefs around Taravai's south bay hold caverns full of big angelfish, Napoleon wrasse and parrotfish, walls to 10-12 m, table and staghorn coral, white-tip sharks and big groupers.

Practical

approx: the pin is the reef on the south side of the bay; no published position. Sugar Shack swam in 0.5 m over the reef top before reaching a 3-5 m cavern and deeper coral walls. They also snorkeled between the reef and Agakauitai (small fish in the shallows, large fish on the wall). Chugach rated the reefs W and N of the island excellent. Go in calm weather, mind the shallow coral and do not take fish.
