Starfish Beach Anchorage

9° 24.2′ N · 82° 19.5′ W · approximate

Many cruisers' favourite Bocas anchorage: clear, swimmable water off Starfish Beach, close enough to town for a quick provisioning run.

Practical

Position approximate — offset about 150 m into Almirante Bay from the Wikivoyage beach coordinate; sound in. Cruiser reports: 8–10 m with good holding (noforeignland). Water is clear and swimmable; busy with tour boats and jet skis by day, quiet after about 6 pm. The sail out from Bocas Town is upwind and usually takes longer than the return (melonthego 2022). Cruisers have held Christmas-Eve bonfire potlucks here (melonthego). Approach via the deep Boca del Drago channel area along the inner shore of Isla Colón.

Best for

Overnight with clear water and starfish

Season

Year-round; most settled in the Sept–Oct calm
