Smith's Reef

21° 47.1′ N · 72° 13.3′ W

The best easy beach snorkel on Provo: several distinct reefs and coral heads off Turtle Cove with turtles, eagle rays, angelfish and healthy sea fans.

Practical

Three beach accesses; the best reef is in deeper water off the point between the West and Central accesses. Stay well away from the Turtle Cove boat channel — reckless powerboat traffic is the main hazard. Occasional strong current; lionfish present. Inside Princess Alexandra National Park: no touching or taking anything. Night snorkeling is rewarding with a proper dive light (October 2026 notes: more green turtles than usual, cero mackerel, batfish).

Best for

Shore snorkeling from a Turtle Cove berth
