Río Cumayasa Anchorage
18° 23.0′ N · 69° 4.9′ W
A quiet jungle river west of La Romana, deep at the entrance and used in the past as a hurricane hole. Going upriver is 'a trip back in time'.
Practical
Waypoint from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015). The entrance is a quarter mile wide but blends into the shore: look for a cement-block house on the west side. 25–30 ft at the entrance with no bar; favor the port side going upriver to avoid debris and shallows; 7–11 ft for about 1.5 miles, with shoal spots of 5–6 ft. A Navy post on the port side about a quarter mile up appreciates a courtesy visit. A small yard does fiberglass repairs. A developing facility 1.5 miles up had stern-to moorings with a night guard (2015, verify locally).
