Red Frog Anchorage (Isla Bastimentos)

9° 19.9′ N · 82° 10.9′ W · approximate

A roomy, mangrove-ringed bay midway along Bastimentos' south shore, sheltered by islets and a reef — dolphins in the mornings, beach bocce in the afternoons.

Practical

ANCHORING BAN: from December 6, 2024, boats may no longer anchor outside Red Frog Marina. The Armada told all boats to leave on December 5, and fines of US$250–300 were reported (Ocean Posse, December 2024). Confirm the current rules with the marina or the VHF 68 net before dropping the hook here; take a berth at Red Frog Marina or anchor elsewhere (Big Bight, Dolphin Bay, Bahía Honda). The history below is for reference. Position is waypoint TC2RF15 ('out past Red Ball') from a 2019 cruiser route to Red Frog Marina (09°19.90'N, 082°10.88'W) — anchor nearby in good mud (noforeignland). Well sheltered; quiet; beach access via the Red Frog resort for a small fee (melonthego 2022). Moon jellyfish have been abundant here at times (melonthego; noforeignland). Marina nearby for fuel, provisions and showers. CSSN continues to receive theft reports from Red Frog Beach and Old Bank Bay — lock dinghies and outboards (Noonsite 2026). Cruisers run regular bocce matches on the beach near Red Frog.
