Red Frog Beach (Playa Rana Roja)

9° 20.7′ N · 82° 10.8′ W

A golden crescent on Bastimentos' Caribbean side backed by rainforest where tiny strawberry poison-dart frogs hop across the path — bodysurfing waves, beach bars and sloths in the trees.

Practical

Position 9.34456, -82.17956 (Wikivoyage). From the marina side, a free truck or short walk crosses the island; a private-path fee of about US$5 applies, or about US$75 for a resort day pass (Tourism Panama — verify locally). Strong waves and rip currents at times; surfable December–March (Tourism Panama; melonthego). Two bars and a hostel at the far end (Wikivoyage). Don't touch or step on the frogs — they are toxic (Tourism Panama). Part of the Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park area; turtles nest on Bastimentos' outer beaches.

Season
