Ranguana Caye

16° 20.0′ N · 88° 9.1′ W

A two-acre private island of powdery sand and palms just inside the barrier reef, about 18-20 miles southeast of Placencia, with a beach bar, cabanas and great snorkelling - the postcard of the southern cayes.

Practical

Managed by Robert's Grove resort; US$10 per person cover/landing charge if not on a mooring (VYA, Moorings). Moorings eGuide (2025): moorings US$20 per night; not a good overnight anchorage - only in settled conditions with ENE trades, very close to the reef and unsafe in SW, W and NW-N winds; ice US$5 per bag; restaurant reservations essential. Yacht Warriors: decent protection from easterlies, exposed to S and W; anchor in sand patches (rock makes anchors drag) and dive on it; moorings may be limited; Bully's Beach Bar, paddleboards and kayaks for rent. The OCC notes found 5 m, clear water and hard sand. Dive guides mandatory for diving. Position: OpenStreetMap island centroid.
