Silk Cayes (Queen Cayes)
16° 26.8′ N · 88° 3.2′ W
Three small white-sand cayes (North, Middle and South Silk) just inside Queen Caye on the barrier reef, with some of the most spectacular snorkelling and diving in southern Belize - turtles, nurse sharks and rays over clear sand and coral.
Practical
Inside the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve: a no-take zone surrounds the Silk Cayes (Wikipedia). Fee US$10 per person (Moorings eGuide; Ventura Yacht Agency). A licensed local guide or skipper must accompany a yacht into this tricky anchorage, and a guide is mandatory for snorkelling and diving; no jet skis. Not an ideal overnight anchorage (VYA). Bareboaters usually leave the yacht on a Ray Caye mooring and go by resort skiff. A tern colony nests on North Silk. Position: OpenStreetMap 'Silk Caye'.
