Playa Blanca Crowd Timing (Barú)
10° 13.5′ N · 75° 36.5′ W · approximate
Playa Blanca empties and fills on a daily tide of tour boats: arrive by yacht before about 10 am or stay after 4 pm and the famous white beach is calm; in between, and in peak weeks, it is shoulder-to-shoulder with vendors.
Practical
Coordinate is the Playa Blanca beach entry (OSM); this entry is about timing, not a separate place. Tom Plan My Trip (Barú guide, updated May 2026): the beach is 'always crowded with tourists and very noisy' in the day; group tours leave Cartagena's La Bodeguita dock around 9–10 am and head back around 3 pm, private boats about 9 am–4:30 pm; avoid Holy Week, weekends, long weekends, public holidays and mid-December to mid-January; stay overnight to see it after the day-trippers leave. Island boats run only between about 8 am and 5 pm (Rosario guide), so mornings before about 10 am and evenings after 5 pm are quietest. Vendors are insistent: refuse 'free' samples, agree prices first and watch for extra charges (Wikivoyage warns of a COP 30,000 oyster bill, dated; Tom Plan My Trip of fake 'taxes'). From a yacht, anchor at Puerto Naito in good light and land by dinghy.
