Michael Rock & Sandy Bay Anchorage (Guanaja)

16° 29.3′ N · 85° 54.1′ W · approximate

On Guanaja's unspoilt north-west coast, a narrow reef channel opens to an anchorage by the Michael's Rock headland — the island's best beaches, colourful snorkelling and the trail to the waterfall.

Practical

Only when no norther is forecast. OCC notes: a relatively straightforward narrow channel through the reef; anchor just SW of Bo's (over-water restaurant; reserve for set dinners) or on the southern side of Michael's Rock; good snorkelling off Bo's and the rock's south side. If you'd rather not anchor, explore by dinghy through the canal across the island. A 2023 cruiser dove with End of the World Divers on the north side. Coordinate approximate: offset seaward from the OSM Michael Rock hamlet (16.48414, -85.89766) and Michael's Rock peak.
