Manatee & Coquar Bays (Portland Bight)

17° 50.0′ N · 77° 0.8′ W

Two adjacent bays on Portland Bight's north-east shore, beloved by Kingston sailors, with a great beach and good shelter from northerlies.

Practical

Position is Virgintino's waypoint due south of Walker Bay (17 50.04N, 077 00.83W). Relatively easy entry; Virgintino advises against the reef-backed anchorage on the west side of Manatee Bay (feel-your-way, shoal at the south of the entrance). Wreck Bay and its three small cays to the east are secure in northerly conditions but not tranquil in heavy trades. Especially useful early in the season (December-March) when northers blow.
