Livingston Port of Entry

15° 49.7′ N · 88° 44.9′ W

Livingston, the Garifuna town at the river mouth, is where yachts clear into Guatemala for the Río Dulce — officials come out to the boat, and an agent can wrap up the papers within an hour.

Practical

Coordinate is the Capitanía de Puerto Livingston from OpenStreetMap. Process (Noonsite and cruiser reports): anchor off town after crossing the bar; the agent brings Port Captain, Immigration, Health and others out by launch; then visit the agent's office near the town dock with passports and registration. Agent: Raúl Morales Véliz, SERVAMAR, VHF 16 and 68, +502 5510 9104, navieraservamar@gmail.com — he also visits up-river marinas monthly for extensions. Fees: a 2020 Noonsite report paid US$200 for all fees plus commission (most of it the permit) plus US$50 for a tow over the bar; another 2015 crew paid about Q3,756 including Q2,000 to extend the permit to cover hurricane season. Government catalogue (read October 2026): free pratique and the Capitanía's temporary stay permit (3-12 months) list Q0; customs (SAT) temporary import for a recreational boat runs with your tourist stay — confirm charges on arrival. Long stays: 2014 rules required an INGUAT-registered marina contract for extensions beyond 12 months (verify current rules). Guatemalan Migración has a Livingston office in Barrio El Centro. Get quetzales at the ATMs. Never leave the boat unattended at Livingston.
