Laguna Gri Gri Anchorage (Río San Juan)
19° 39.0′ N · 70° 5.3′ W
Two reef-sheltered anchorages off Río San Juan, where local boats run tourists through the Gri Gri mangrove canals. One of very few stops on the long lee shore between Puerto Plata and Samaná.
Practical
Waypoint from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015). One anchorage is at the NE tip of the continuous reef in 15 ft over hard sand and rock; the other is inside the SW end with the fishing fleet. Many sandbars. Do NOT use in NE or E winds with a sea from the NE; the guide rates it 'risky'.
Best for
A settled-weather rest stop when working east along the north coast
Season
Only in calm, settled weather
