17° 57.5′ N · 66° 13.3′ W

The Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve protects 2,883 acres of mangrove, seagrass and the Cayos Caribes; its trails and kayak route through the mangroves are open all the time.

Practical

Coordinates from Wikipedia (reserve). DRNA: the visitor center is on PR-705 km 2.3 in Aguirre, Salinas; open Monday to Friday 8 to 11:45am and 1 to 3:30pm, closed weekends; the trails and kayak route are open to the public at all times. NOAA describes the Cayos Caribes as 15 tear-shaped, reef-fringed mangrove islands and lists brown pelicans, peregrine falcons, hawksbill turtles and West Indian manatees; tidal range 0.6 m. Wikipedia mentions boardwalks and observation towers. Paddle quietly, keep clear of manatees, and take the dinghy slow through the mangrove channels.
