Salinas Bay Anchorage (Bahía de Jobos)
17° 57.3′ N · 66° 17.6′ W · approximate
A large, mangrove-ringed anchorage at Playa de Salinas behind a barrier of cays: ample room, good holding in mud, restaurants ashore, and one of Puerto Rico's classic hurricane refuges.
Practical
Position approx: in the anchorage south of Marina de Salinas, checked to be in water on OpenStreetMap; the Virgintino PR guide's entrance waypoint is 17°56.80N 66°17.58W. Holding good in mud (guide). The mangrove anchorages of neighboring Bahía de Jobos, especially west of Cayo Puerca, are normally used in hurricanes (guide). To get a jump on the trades heading east, exit and anchor overnight behind Cayos de Barca (17°55.12N 66°14.05W), then leave early through Boca del Infierno. Town is about a mile's walk west.
Best for
A sheltered south-coast base and hurricane-season option
