Isla Múcura South-Side Anchorage (San Bernardo)

9° 46.7′ N · 75° 52.5′ W · approximate

An eyeball anchorage off Múcura's south shore, below the island's small village, with the Punta Faro beach and the reef-slope snorkel a short dinghy ride round the island.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate and derived: about 200 m south of Múcura's southernmost point as mapped in OSM (island 9.7796–9.7840 N, 75.8686–75.8764 W); no guide publishes a waypoint here. The nearest official anchorages are the national guide's A17 north of El Islote (09°47'15.028"N 75°51'34.144"W) and A16 south of Tintipán (09°47'16.585"N 75°50'52.932"W), 1–1.5 nm east - use those for overnight stops. Múcura is a low coral plateau (up to 3 m) fringed by reef; islanders rent rowboats and guide snorkelers to the reef edge (national guide). Múcura is one of the archipelago's two populated centers (Spanish Wikipedia); OSM maps small restaurants and bars (Lourdes, Yurleydis, Lucero) along the south shore. Depths in San Bernardo can be well under charted (ActiveCaptain, 2017) - sound your way in over sand in good light. Inside the national park: no anchoring on coral, no fishing or collecting.

Best for
