Isla Grande North-Shore Reef Snorkel

10° 10.9′ N · 75° 43.7′ W · approximate

Isla Grande is ringed by fringing reef; snorkel straight off the north-shore anchorages early in the morning, when the water is glassy and the speedboats have not yet arrived.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: placed at the official Majagua anchoring waypoint (see Majagua Anchorage) off the north-shore reef; any of the north-side anchorages (Mantas, Cocotera, Alcatraz, Majagua) gives access. Tom Plan My Trip (updated May 2026): go between 6 and 9 am or after 4 pm because boats pass at high speed, visibility is good but much of the coral is dead, and a local guide can show you the best patches. Light, slack conditions are typical in the rainy season (April–November), when the guide recommends north-side anchorages. Tow a dive flag and stay in sight of the boat. Park rules: don't touch, stand on or anchor on coral; no collecting; dive only with an operator licensed for the park (Parques Nacionales).
