Cueva de la Línea & Taíno Pictographs

19° 4.7′ N · 69° 28.0′ W · approximate

A limestone cave in San Lorenzo Bay, reached by a short mangrove creek and path, whose walls carry ancient Taíno drawings. It is named for the old railway line ('la línea') whose abandoned pier pilings still stand nearby.

Practical

Position approx: cave entrance as mapped on OpenStreetMap. The Virgintino guide (~2015) gives the creek entrance at about 19°04.82N 69°28.06W, west of the abandoned pier pilings; the creek shallows to 2 ft with mangroves, so watch for roots that puncture inflatables. Paddle or row the final stretch. The guide reported a park fee of RD$100 (about US$3) per person with a receipt (2015, verify locally). Flash photography was allowed per the guide; best practice is not to touch the paintings.
