Los Haitises Anchorage (San Lorenzo Bay)
19° 5.8′ N · 69° 29.2′ W
Bahía de San Lorenzo, a still bay walled by jungle-clad karst towers inside Los Haitises. Virgintino calls it a 'do-not-miss' anchorage that rates with the best in the Caribbean, and you will usually have it alone.
Practical
Waypoint from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015). Get a despacho to Los Haitises from the Samaná comandancia first (they will ask how many days). Puerto Bahía Marina puts San Lorenzo Bay 11 nm from its docks. The park office is tucked among the rocks left of some abandoned pier pilings and is seldom manned. Morning mist burns off over silent water; bring bug spray for dusk.
Best for
The most spectacular overnight anchorage in the DR
Season
Year-round; calm inside the bay
