Colón Provisioning (Supermarkets via Shelter Bay)

9° 21.4′ N · 79° 53.9′ W · approximate

Colón's supermarkets and shopping centres are the big provisioning stop before the San Blas or the Pacific crossing, reached by the Shelter Bay Marina bus or by taxi.

Practical

Coordinate: Colón city (Wikipedia), approximate for the stores. Shelter Bay Marina runs a free bus for docked boats to the Colón supermarket and mall; demand is high, so often only one crew member per boat per day. The supermarket offers a free bus back to the marina if you spend over $300 (Noonsite, verify locally). Colón is considered unsafe: muggings and robberies are regular; use taxis and don't walk with valuables. Panama City has a good choice of large supermarkets and is an affordable place to stock up on non-perishables and alcohol. Bring everything you need into the San Blas: island shops carry only basics.
