Shelter Bay Marina Fuel Dock

9° 22.8′ N · 79° 55.9′ W · approximate

The diesel fuel barge at Shelter Bay Marina, to port as you enter the marina channel, the main place to fill tanks on the Caribbean side of the canal; it serves everything from cruising boats to megayachts.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: the marina approach position (Noonsite). Noonsite: book fuelling in the marina office and call Shelter Bay Marina on VHF 74 for instructions; payment is made in advance, with credit for any overpayment; diesel only, no gasoline; capacity up to 60,000 gallons. Fuel at the Playita and Flamenco marinas in Balboa is reported cheaper than on this side (about $0.50 per gallon less in one report). LPG: refills of most bottle types can be organised through the marina office, or taken by taxi to Tropigaz in Colón (they carry adapters; that part of town is unsafe). Keep 90 m off the headland to port and follow the green markers: there is a reef off the entrance.
